We have a housing crisis in Boulder (and throughout Boulder County) with skyrocketing property values and rents and a rapid loss of middle-income and workforce housing, and thus our friends and neighbors who can't afford to live here anymore. We are at a tipping point as a community and this issue needs immediate attention, foresight, vision and action.
Tom Hagerty, former City of Boulder Finance Director met with Goose Creek Neighbors and Hospital Creative Coalition members including Boulder Community Hospital board member Benita Duran Monday June 8 about the possible mechanics of a purchase by the City. He of course couldn't speak for the City currently but confirmed that such a purchase was within realm of possibility.
County Commissioners Deb Gardner and Elise Jones met with Goose Creek Neighbors and Hospital Creative Coalition members on Friday June 12 and expressed interest in exploring use of the site for County offices and for affordable housing. They have instructed financial and Boulder County Housing Authority staff to prepare to assist the City in its efforts to purchase the Boulder Community Hospital property.
